ACADEMIC Battle of the Books BOB is a reading motivation activity in which participants form teams and read books selected by the Alaska Battle of the Books Committee. The teams then compete to answer questions about the books. Battles are scheduled at the end of February (Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Arnold). Junior Honor Society There is a selection process for determining members of the honor society. The group meets Wednesdays during mod 12, 1-2 times a month (Mrs. Armpriester). Odyssey of the Mind Available to 6th,7th, and 8th grade students who are interested in competing using problem-solving skills. With 5-7 students per team, students work on long-term problems throughout the year and compete in March on a regional level with the opportunity to compete at higher levels (Mr. Emery). Science Olympiad This is a self-directed club for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in science! There is an informational meeting in October followed by meetings as needed (Mr. McCormick). Spelling Bee Competition starts at the school level (Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Jones). MUSIC Drum Line Meets Fridays and Saturdays at the high school. See your music teacher for more information. Guitar Club Available to all middle school students! The club meets mod 12 on Wednesday from September through January in room 611 (Mrs. Love). Winter Guard Meets Monday and Wednesday from 7-9pm in the middle school gymnasium. See your music teacher for more information. VARIOUS Card Club Available to all students in the middle school. Card Club meets on Monday during mod 12 in room 527 (Mr. Ruckdeschel). Peace Poster Club This club meets mod 12 from September through November 1st. Listen to announcements for meeting dates (Mrs. Sio). Newspaper Club Available to all students. This club meets mod 12 every other Thursday, opposite Student Council (Mrs. Armpriester). Student Council Representatives meet every other Thursday during mod 12 to address student issues and work on improving the school (Mr. Marinelli). Yearbook Available to all students. Yearbook students do marketing, sales, and some design. The club meets during mod 12 (Mrs. Diberardino). The student must then inform his/her parents of the dates and times of any activity. The Jordan-Elbridge Middle School offers an array of extracurricular activities to accommodate different student interests. As parents, please encourage your child to participate.
